A composable stack across ten specialized systems.

Modern commerce architecture is often built as a single platform handling everything: catalog, content, search, checkout, integration. That model breaks at scale because each layer evolves on a different timeline, and replacing one means replacing all of them.

This composable stack uses best-of-breed systems for each layer, coordinated through a custom middleware. Virto Commerce handles checkout, pricing, cart, and customer accounts. Optimizely CMS owns content. Algolia powers search. Each layer can be upgraded or replaced independently without re-platforming the others.

PIM content and ERP transactional data, unified in one storefront.

Product data rarely comes from a single source. Descriptive content (names, attributes, images, marketing copy) is managed by product teams in a PIM, while transactional data (pricing, inventory, unit of measure, location availability) lives in the ERP. Commerce has to merge both into a single, accurate product record without manual reconciliation.

Inriver PIM serves as the source of truth for all descriptive product content. Prophet 21 owns transactional data across nine warehouse locations. Optimizely consumes and consolidates data from both systems through automated integration jobs, with real-time synchronization keeping product descriptions, pricing, and stock availability aligned across all digital touchpoints.

Global B2B commerce doesn't run on a single platform. Procurement, VAT validation, consent management, identity, fraud, address validation, document signing, and search each have specialized vendors that outperform any general-purpose tool. The architectural question isn't whether to integrate specialized services; it's how to integrate fifteen of them without the system collapsing under its own coordination overhead.

A Vue.js + Virto frontend handles the customer-facing experience layer. An Azure-based middleware connects all systems. Around the core, fifteen specialized services integrate at the right architectural seam, TradeCentric, Algolia, Imperva WAF, hCaptcha, OneTrust, Google Analytics, TrustedBadge, LiveChat, Cybersource, OneSource, DocuSign, Melissa, and VIES, each connected through middleware rather than directly to the commerce core.

Optimizely ECP handles commerce operations, orders, pricing, inventory, carts, catalog, and loyalty. InRiver PIM manages product data and pricing. Techsys OrderDynamics runs fulfillment. Eagle Compass ERP is the system of record. An Azure integration layer coordinates inventory, pricing, and loyalty calculations across all systems, with Cloudflare providing CDN, WAF, and DNS at the edge.
