Founded in 1976, The Doctors Company has become the country’s largest physician-owned medical malpractice insurer. In more than 40 years of operation, they have grown to more than 80,000 members and more than $4 billion in assets. But while their members have been on the cutting edge of medicine for decades, their websites were having trouble keeping up. That’s when they came to Luminos Labs and Episerver.
A simple re-platform
The Doctors Company came to us because the needs of managing their three websites–thedoctors.com, tdcfoundation.com, tdcspecialty.com–had outgrown the services of their platform. While they were happy with the look of their sites, they wanted to improve functionality on the back-end. A complete overhaul wasn’t going to be necessary–a simple platform shift would do.
Our planning process involved stepping back and identifying The Doctors Company’s specific back-end needs, familiarizing ourselves with their technology. Once that was done, we were able to recreate their functionalities, page types, and integrations on Episerver. In the process, we made sure to maintain the look of the website, providing users with the visual experience they had become familiar with.
Add some features, fix some bugs
Episerver’s digital commerce platform is designed to be flexible and easy to use. To that end, we helped improve The Doctors Company’s search function and search results page. We made changes to the CMS interface to allow for more dynamic management tools, and we improved their content report functionality. Our work also included fixing bugs as they presented themselves.
A successful shift
The shift to Episerver’s platform was completed on time and within the stated budget, going live on January 9, 2018. We maintained communication with The Doctors Company throughout, and they were very satisfied with our work. We agreed to provide maintenance after the re-platforming was complete in order to help the transition progress smoothly.
If you’re interested in upgrading your digital commerce platform, feel free to contact us. We’d love to hear from you, and there’s no cost for an initial consultation.
