Freelance Visual Designer

Location: Milwaukee

 

Do you have a passion for cutting-edge digital commerce websites? Do you enjoy working with world-class digital commerce clients? If your answer is “yes” we’d certainly like to meet you.

We are looking for a talented Senior Visual Designer to join our team. The Visual Designer leads visual design efforts for multiple complex digital commerce projects. They are proactive, results-driven and client focused. They are comfortable working with both clients and technical team members. They have a proven track record of researching, envisioning and creating modern visual design approaches for high-end digital commerce solutions. Their designs bring together experience, best practices, company brand standards, industry insight and customer needs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Create original graphic designs (e.g. images, sketches and tables) and present rough drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders.
  • Design graphic user interface elements, like menus, page layouts, and widgets/blocks.
  • Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows and sitemaps.
  • Develop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how sites will function and look.
  • Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with strategist, architects and customer success managers.
  • Conduct layout adjustments based on user feedback.
  • Adhere to style standards on fonts, colors and images.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4+ year of experience with online experience design tools (such as Sketch, Zeplin, Axure, InDesign and/or Photoshop)
  • 2+ year of experience creating digital commerce visual designs (B2B, B2C, B2B2C ecommerce sites)
  • Solid page design (portfolio presentation required)
  • Ability to communicate and foster successful transition of product to visual design and technology teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, including UX, business (e.g. Marketing, Sales), product management and/or technology/IT/engineering)
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is ideal; however, experience can potentially replace this requirement
  • Experience developing e-commerce website visual designs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with project managers and technical leads to identify requirements
  • Work with technical leads on technical design
  • Do development on all different layers: database, data access, business, presentation
  • Perform unit testing
  • Participate in peer code reviews
  • Work with testers on product delivery and user acceptance testing

Minimum Qualifications

  • experience with ASP.NET MVC, ASP>NET Web Api, Enity Framework
  • HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, Ajax
  • LINQ, WCF, WWF, WPF
  • Sound understanding of distributed applications
  • SQL Server 2008/2012, database design, development and administration

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the development efforts for one or more Digital Commerce .NET web applications
  • Be the bridge between the client and the team for anything technical
  • Provide consultancy for our clients on optimal technical solutions
  • Continuously communicate with the client to ensure there is alignment on technical decisions
  • Coordinate with client and other vendors to ensure integrations with 3rd party systems are done in the best way

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Requirements

    Participate in requirements gathering sessions with the client.
    Help the Business Analyst gather and document technical requirements.
    Review requirements documents created by the Business Analyst and supplement them with detailed technical requirements specifications.
    Review documents created by Business Analyst and Information Architect to ensure they are clear as far as what needs to be implemented.
    Support the Information Architect during wireframing and identify any technical implications or concerns.
    Be available to clarify any technical requirements for the team.

  • Technical Design & Development

    Help create the technical design for both the web application and 3rd party systems integrations.
    Back-end development using Microsoft stack and any other required technologies.

  • Project Management

    Proactively notify the Project Manager of any task, deliverable or activity requiring further planning.
    Propose solutions to the Project Manager and the team if timeline, budget and/or scope go off track.

  • Reporting

    Provide daily updates on progress made, blockers, risks and associated mitigation plans.

  • Blockers

    Proactively try to resolve any blockers either by coordinating with the rest of the team, with the client, or with other vendors.
    Report any unresolved blockers to the Project Manager, together with any potential solutions.

  • Risks

    Proactively identity risks and the associated mitigation plans.

  • Culture

    Create an environment that is supportive and focused on delivering value for our clients
    Serve as a role model for open and honest communication, positivity, motivation, engagement, professionalism and fun.

  • Strategy

    Strategize and develop mid- and long-term projects that will deliver value to our clients.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience as .NET Developer and Technical Lead in a consulting/services company
  • 2+ years of experience with CMS and eCommerce
  • Strong experience with Agile methodologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Episerver CMS and/or Commerce Certified Developer
  • Microsoft Certified Developer
  • B.S. in Computer Science or similar
  • Experience delivering eCommerce projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented, with exceptional follow-through
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems collaboratively
  • Helpful, positive, and constructive attitude
